Bees are carrying the pollen from the male flowers and keep returning to the female flower!
Here's a great shot of the bees doing their job! Get in there bees!
This summer is going to be awesome for growing vegatables and other random stuff in your garden. Well I'm just starting out with this so..... I thought I'd blog it and learn from my mistakes for next year. "this year I will mostly be growing..... PUMPKINS' oooaaarrrrrrr! The girls are out!
Well, Just walked out in the garden this morining to see lots of flies and bugs flying around my female flower bud! There are a few other small female flowers budding but the largest one on vine one has opened up.
I might hand pollenate just to be sure and get it going!
The vines are getting longer too! In 2 to 3 weeks they have grown about 5 feet!
Some plants at the back have wilted and gone sloppy but at least I've got one area that is now guaranteed..... (Fingers crossed!)

Hopefully the fenceline vines will start to catch up.

Flowers at last!
Back from holiday, The neighbours have done the business with the pumpkins! The male flowers are out, the fertizer has worked and the plants are getting bigger!
The car trapper is doing ok out the front too.
The cat from next door is adding some fertilizer itself.....(hence the plastic sheeting down!)
Pumpkin Flower Males out........This was about 7am so they are just opening up!
No Female flowers yet and the vines are pretty short compared to some of the ones on youtube, but they are growing so can't complain.

Starting Off!
Well after two weeks of growing in their seed trays my pumpkin seeds have spouted into young vines! After two weeks back in the UK, with gorgeous weather here in Belgium, they are ready!
Soaked in water overnight, I planted some in trays. Another set I soaked and just chucked onto the "veggie patch". They have all started so My daughter Tia helped me plant the remaining potted vines into four mounds.
Had a bit of a mad moment and saw some spare grass out by our post box so....... planted a bunch of five. (the wife says it looks stupid, Oh yes... It will... It does....) and when the monster vines start attacking the neighbours cars when they drive past it... "ëvil laugh".
But when there is a huge Pumpkin out there She won't be calling me mad! (Will she?)
Anyway.... Going to strim some grass (tommorrow?) on some unused field out of the back. And let the vines hijack some random land.....
